What is Muay Yek?

Muay Yek used to be a term for competitions in which Chinese gang fu or kung fu fighters participated.

Background

Muay is the name for a stand-up combat sport using the four body’s own weapons, fist, foot, elbows and knees. The term “Jek” refers to the struggle with Chinese.

Muay Jek was the name for Muay competitions in which Chinese Gang Fu or Kung Fu fighters participated. The organizer of the fight announced this to the betting audience with the term “Muay Jek”.

Since they fought under Muay rules, it can be assumed that the Chinese fighters used a similar type of fighting at such events as is known in today’s San Shou or Sanda.
