What is a sword edge?

Background

With Thai swords (Daab), the blade measures about two thirds of the total length of the sword. It consists of the sword face (weakness) and a often somewhat thickened and less sharp sword-catching (strength). The side of the blade, which is turned away from the edge, is called the sword’s back or false edge.

Due to the low purity and quality of the Southeast Asian steel, this type of sword has always been prone to relatively strong wear. Aggressive clashing of the blades is therefore avoided. Instead, the impact of the enemy attack is preferably used to reposition your own blade and gain kinetic energy for counterattacks.
