What is a poltergeist?

A Poltergeist is a place-bound magical figure. See House Spirit.

Background

A poltergeist is a type of spirit that is said to be responsible for physical disturbances, such as knocking on walls or doors, moving or destroying objects, or making sounds. Poltergeists are often associated with hauntings, but can also occur in cases of possession.

The word “Poltergeist” comes from the German words “poltern” (knocking) and “Geist” (ghost). The first recorded cases of poltergeist activity date back to the Middle Ages, although the phenomenon may be much older. In many cultures, poltergeists are seen as evil spirits who like to wreak havoc. Some believe they are evil beings who have the intention of harming people
