Background

Muay Ngu is an outdated term for competitions between Cobra and Mungo. Later they were also known as Muay Nguhauw Gab Panporn. Muay Ngu is conceptually related to Muay Gai (cockfighting) and Muay Bpla-Gad (fish fighting).

Betting on fights has a long tradition in Thailand that goes back centuries. Since time immemorial, bets have been made on the outcome of fights between people (see Muay Thai) and on fights between animals. In fact, betting on fights of all kinds is still one of the most important cultural traditions in Thailand today and a very lucrative business for many.
