What is a Hilt?

The handle of a sword (also known as Gehilze, Hilze, Griffhilze, Heft) or sword grip is called hilt.

Background

With Thai swords (Daab), the hilt measures about one third of the sword. Traditionally Thai swords have a round handle, which allows a secure hold and a smooth change of the grip (blade up or down).
