What is a preparatory fight?

Preparatory fight is a term from boxing. This refers to fights against weaker opponents who are supposed to build up a fighter.

Background

In professional boxing, a preparatory fight is a fight against an opponent who is inferior to the boxer and whose sole purpose is to help the boxer move up the leaderboard. These opponents are usually selected based on their previous defeats, and they are not expected to be a big challenge.

By fighting against these types of opponents, the boxers can minimize the risk of defeat and quickly improve their ranking. In some cases, preparatory fights can also serve to recover from a previous defeat or rebuild confidence. Regardless of the reason, preparatory fights play an important role in the career of a professional boxer.
