Muay Gai is an outdated term for cockfighting and translates as “cock fight bet”. In later times, cockfights were called Dtie Gai (cock-hitting) or Gai Chon (cock-striking).

Muay Gai is related to Muay Bpla-Gad (competition of fighting fish) and Muay Ngu / Muay Nguhauw Gab Panporn (competitions between cobras and mungos).
