Who is Mae Ya Nang?

Mae Ya Nang (แม่ย่านาง) is the patron goddess or patron saint of ships and boats in Thailand.

Background

Mae Ya Nang is often depicted as a beautiful woman with long hair wearing a flower crown. This belief is very popular with Thai Buddhist fishermen in the southern region as well as the Royal Thai Navy.
